Hair and Fashion Benefit Show

A hair and fashion show was put on by Serendipity Hair Design to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The up-dos and outfits presented during the show were over-the-top and fabulous. Sporting any of these hair-dos is a must in the future. As always, thanks for looking!

Grand Rapids Ballet’s “Movemedia 2″

Ballet is beautiful. The way people move with such grace and strength at the same time is amazing. I was able to photograph the dress rehearsal for The Grand Rapids Ballet’s “Movemedia 2″, which consisted of three different pieces, with one of those pieces incorporating three individual dances. I came out with some images that I really enjoyed.

The Joy of Wrestling

I absolutely love photographing wrestling, although I’m not a huge fan of the sport itself. It’s definitely in my top three sports to photograph. I am one of a few photographers who I’ve heard that enjoys it, which is interesting. I’m not quite sure why other photographers don’t enjoy it but I think it’s fun to wait for that moment when limbs intertwine into something visually interesting. It’s like shooting abstract art in sports. There have only been a couple matches that I’ve photographed this season, but here are some images I enjoyed.

Prep Basketball Struggles

This season of prep basketball has been a struggle. I haven’t come up with any wowing shots that I’ve fallen in love with. Each game I’ve tried to push myself to figure out what I want to do differently to find what works for me. Here are a couple shots from the season so far.

Concert Addict

I have been given the opportunity to shoot many concerts during this internship and it’s always fun to try to get a different shot and show what that particular concert is like. From Snoop Dogg to local folky accordions, it’s always entertaining.

Winter In Michigan

Despite the warmer-than-usual temperatures that have been present this winter in Michigan, we have had a couple decent snow storms. The snow was something I was worried about before, but it has been fun to shoot in when it has been present. Here are some images I’ve shot in the cold (well, cold for me).

Spinning Spare

I never knew bowling was a high school sport until I moved to Grand Rapids. I wish they had bowling at my high school! I definitely would have been on the team and would have had a cool ball like this one.

West Catholic’s Trenton Clark bowls during the West Catholic Bowling Invitational Saturday, Jan. 21, at Clique Lanes in Grand Rapids. West Catholic finished second at the invite behind Rogers.

Gettin’ Dirty at Arenacross

The extent of my knowledge of Arenacross is what I learned in the Disney Original Movie Motocrossed. This was one of my favorite movies when I was in elementary school and I always thought it would be so cool to race. I apologize if Arenacross and Motocross are completely different. I believe Arenacross is inside and Motocross is outside? Anyway… Arenacross was super exciting to shoot. I had dirt caked in my hair by the end of the night and I got a few shots I liked as well. As always, thanks for taking a look.

Happy 2012!

Wow! I can’t believe it’s 2012! The past year has been a lot of growing. Thank you all for looking at my work and for the mounds of support. Thanks also to those who have been huge parts of my growth; I wouldn’t be here without you guys. I hope the new year brings great experiences and relationships to you all.
I spent ringing in the new year in downtown Grand Rapids with thousands of other people. I was photographing the ball drop and the huge party leading up to it. Fun stuff, minus someone trying to kiss me at midnight and the weather being freezing cold. You can check out the other photos I made of revelers, here.

Happy New Year!

Curious Kiddo

I wasn’t super stoked to get up early and photograph Santa arriving on a train this morning. (I love Christmas time but there is only so much photographing of Santa you can take.) But when I arrived at the assignment a bit before Santa was to arrive, I knew instantly there was potential for some good shots. Children were already lined up next to the railroad track, decked out in their winter gear. I was in the small town of Sparta. I’ve noticed kids in small towns play differently than kids from the city. They were all about to break their arms sliding on this huge sheet of ice, and their parents didn’t care. All this really has nothing to do with my favorite photo from the day, so sorry for the rant. I was wandering around the railroad track and saw this man, Dale Patterson, with the longest Santa hat I’ve ever seen. As I was admiring it and wishing I could wear a hat like that at work, out of nowhere two-year-old Jameson Meendering waddled over and started to pull on the hat in curiosity. I fired off just a couple frames and he waddled away.
