I’m one of those people who waits until after Thanksgiving to listen to Christmas music. I don’t believe it’s the holiday season until the turkey is on the table and I’m stuffing my face with my mom’s sweet potatoes. So this week it was a little hard to accept that Christmas is a month and a half away and it was time to photograph Santa Clause coming to town. And to top it all off Grand Rapids had it’s first snowfall of the season. Great. The snow is the one thing I’m really nervous about here. I’ve driven in snow a few times and I’ve done fine but it was nothing like what is expected here. I guess I just need to accept the fact that winter is here and so is the holiday season. Time to go eat some pumpkin pie!

Judy Paul, an employee at See’s Candies, hands Santa some candy as she jokes around with him that he’s not fat enough as he arrives for the holiday season Friday, Nov. 11, at Woodland Mall. “He needed to eat some more candy,” Paul said.

Kyle Peters, 10, right, and Izzy Peters, 8, try to catch snowflakes in their mouths and hands as the first snowflakes fall Thursday, Nov. 10, on Henry Street in Grand Rapids.
